I just demolished a bowl-in-progress. It should go in the kindling pile but I'm not sure I want to see it again. Stupid bowl. I started it last weekend but just now got to working on it again, and it had gone quite a bit out of round. Apparently I didn't leave enough material in the sides to fully support it while rounding it out again, and it broke violently while I was trying to re-round it.

I'm particularly irritated because it was a pretty piece of wood and I was liking the shape I was getting.

I also have an experimental project going on where I'm trying to turn a flower out of wood. I have the flower partially done but now I'm trying to find a good cutting instrument for defining the petals. I have the leaves partway done but in a totally weird experimental way so I have no idea how those are going to come out. I'll see tomorrow when I can work on the blank again. Currently it's downstairs clamped together so the glue can dry.

The Powerpuff kittens all got spayed today. They're pretty pissed off about that, and they're even more irritated that I've locked them in the bathroom tonight. They're not supposed to go up or down stairs until tomorrow at least, so that's the only way I can prevent them. I think they're also mad the bathroom has been totally cleaned of their scent while they were gone. Of course, they might just be hungry and in pain too. They get dinner and meds around 9:00.

Dad and Dannye came into town this weekend. Saturday they were here at the house and Melinda and Jim brought the boys over. JR was scared of Mack and Lola because they both kept coming up to him, but eventually he warmed up to them and started chasing them around instead. Melinda said he's going through a phase of being scared of things like cats and dogs, so I'm not taking it personally. Harrison tried to catch Mack while crawling, but he's just not very good at it yet and wasn't quite fast enough. We all had dinner at Cusanellis which was a hit, and worked out great since we got the upstairs pretty much to ourselves. Brent and I had never even been upstairs before.

I took some decent pictures of my latest wood turnings and posted them in an online gallery today. You can see them here (i think--lemme know if the link doesn't work): http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=4392

My cousin is getting married in a few weeks and I'm hoping to make her a nice salad bowl, but I don't know if I'll be able to find a piece of wood that will work for it.

Oh, speaking of wood, Beth tipped us off to an estate sale in webster that had woodturning stock. We went over and ended up getting a handful of pieces. Nothing extraordinary but some decent stuff. Several pieces of Sassafras and Pear. The Sassafras has some cracks, but I still made a cute little bowl out of one piece.

Tonight was weavers' guild but I forgot to go. Oh well.
