Possible TMI

If girl things scare you away, then

I went out to Sunset Hills to see a new Dr today. She was impressed at how much IUD research I had done and said she had no problems giving me one! They've ordered me a Mirena and will let me know when it comes in so we can schedule insertion for my next period. I called my insurance company and it's all covered as part of the office visit copay.

5 years of no babies (and very possibly no periods) for $15. $30 if you count the copay for the consultation office visit.

Did you see recently there have been some commercials on TV for something like an IUD (I believe) that looks like a plastic ring and its blue? I cant remember what its called, but it seemed interesting. Is that what you are getting or the standard variety? Are they metal? I thought thats what they said in "health" class. (I, obviously, have NOT done homework in this subject.)

I think I would almost consider getting one, but not if there is a risk of infertility, so guess I will have to stick to the pill.

The plastic ring thing sounds a lot like NuvaRing (clear not blue though) which isn't really like an IUD since it's vaginal and not in the uterus. I've used it for years and it's great.

There are two kinds of IUDs available for use in the US, Paragard and Mirena. I'm getting Mirena. They're not made of metal--they're plastic. Paragard does include copper though, since that's part of what makes it effective. Mirena doesn't have copper, just Progesterone.

Honestly, the risk of infertility is near nothing as long as you don't sleep around. Doctors (in missouri particularly) try to play things safe so they don't get sued though.
